UCP Cart Transfer Is Rolling Out. Google, Walmart, and Target Still Score 0 of 5 on Commerce.

Google is shipping UCP cart transfer in Merchant Center, but live Robauto Agent Scans still show Agentic Commerce at 0/5 on google.com, walmart.com, and target.com — while network AI referrals stay at zero.

UCP cart transfer rolling out — google, walmart, target still 0 of 5 commerce

Google is rolling cart transfer into the Merchant Center Universal Commerce Protocol hub. On the same Monday morning, Robauto Agent Scan still finds Agentic Commerce at 0 of 5 on google.com, walmart.com, and target.com — while AI referral visits across the Robauto network remain at zero. Platform rails are moving. Public discovery on the domains agents actually crawl is not keeping pace.

What Google just made easier

Search Engine Journal reports that Google is rolling out cart transfer and expanded checkout testing in the Merchant Center UCP hub. Merchants can move shoppers from Google to their own site to finish buying, with a shorter validation path that skips full product-feed setup. Google says UCP already enables direct checkout for hundreds of thousands of brands and retailers, with the hub expanding gradually in the U.S. and Australia/Canada next — Search Engine Journal.

That is platform progress. The UCP specification still expects businesses to advertise capabilities at /.well-known/ucp so agents and platforms can negotiate checkout over REST, MCP, or A2A — UCP overview. Merchant Center setup and a public discovery document on your host are related jobs, not the same job.

Live retail scans, September 28, 2026

Robauto’s free Agent Scan runs 25 read-only checks across four tiers. Re-scanned this morning (America/Denver):

Bar chart: Agentic Commerce tier 0 for google walmart target versus 5 for robauto and metareva

Target is ahead on Signal Basics — it publishes a usable llms.txt (about 6,158 characters) and serves readable HTML. That helps agents understand the brand. It does not complete Agentic Commerce. On all three retail hosts in this pass, ACP, UCP, AP2, x402, and MPP discovery still failed.

What “0 of 5” means on a public host

CheckWhat agents look forgoogle.comwalmart.comtarget.comSpec
ACP /.well-known/acp.json fail fail fail agenticcommerce.dev
UCP /.well-known/ucp fail fail fail UCP overview
AP2 mandate extension on an agent card fail fail fail AP2 via agent card
x402 inline payment surface fail fail fail x402 docs
MPP machine pricing metadata fail fail fail OpenAPI payment info

This is not a claim that Google, Walmart, or Target lack internal commerce APIs. It is a claim about what an unauthenticated agent finds on the public marketing host when it looks for the same discovery files the UCP and ACP specs describe. Merchant Center can enable cart transfer for a Google surface. Agents that land on your own domain still need a map.

Network pulse: crawlers yes, referrals no

What brands should do next

  1. Scan your public host at robauto.ai/scan — start with Signal Basics (HTTPS, robots, sitemap, llms.txt, readable HTML).
  2. Publish discovery where agents look — at minimum /.well-known/ucp and/or /.well-known/acp.json if you want agent checkout, not only a Merchant Center toggle.
  3. Separate platform rails from site readiness — cart transfer in Google’s hub is progress; it does not replace machine-readable identity on your own domain.
  4. Watch AI referral, not just crawler volume — crawls without referrals mean agents read you but do not send measurable handoffs yet.

UCP cart transfer makes the Google-to-merchant path clearer for shoppers. Agent-ready brands still win by publishing the same capabilities on surfaces agents can discover without a human login. Run your scan, fix the first failing commerce check, and re-check the score.
