October 2026 surveys from PYMNTS, Meta/YouGov, and the Social Market Foundation show frequent AI use lining up with faster work, higher productivity, and stronger revenue for small firms.

October 2026 brought three independent surveys with the same constructive message: small businesses that put AI to work regularly are reporting faster work, more output from the teams they already have, and stronger revenue. Correlation is not causation - every study is careful about that - but the pattern is hard to ignore when it shows up in the United States, the United Kingdom, and across Asia-Pacific at once.

For brand owners, the practical takeaway is not "buy a chatbot and hope." It is that frequent, useful AI in the business lines up with growth, and the same logic applies to being findable by the AI agents that shoppers and operators are already using. If agents cannot read your policies, products, and support paths, they skip you.

## **Frequent AI use lined up with 68% revenue growth**

PYMNTS Intelligence surveyed 533 U.S. small- and medium-sized businesses in August 2026 for its SMB Growth Monitor report, "AI Goes to Work: How SMBs Grow Without Growing Payroll." Nearly three-quarters (74%) of SMBs used AI at least occasionally. Among frequent or very frequent users, 68% reported revenue growth in 2025, compared with 43% of occasional users and 37% of those who used AI rarely or never.

Growing firms also used AI more often. Among SMBs whose revenue rose in 2025, 57% used AI frequently or very frequently - nearly double the 29% among firms with flat revenue. Both groups had tried AI at roughly the same rate (close to nine in ten), so the gap was not "who discovered AI," but "who used it regularly."

Speed and capacity were the everyday wins. Among AI users, 72% said they get work done faster, and six in ten said they produce more work without adding staff. Forty-four percent described AI's financial impact as completely or mostly positive. The most common applications were customer service and calls (58% of users), marketing and advertising (55%), bookkeeping and tax (54%), and sales and business development (53%).

PYMNTS also asked owners to estimate savings from using AI instead of outside help versus revenue lost when customers used AI instead of hiring them. Frequent users estimated savings equal to 16% of revenue and losses of about 7%, for a positive balance of roughly 9% of revenue. Human work still mattered: 23% of SMBs gained customers who specifically wanted a person doing the work, and 14% picked up jobs fixing AI-generated output.

## **Across APAC, 76% saw a productivity lift**

On October 14, 2026, Meta published findings from a YouGov study of 3,983 small business owners across nine Asia-Pacific markets (Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Japan, and Hong Kong), with fieldwork from August 6 to September 2, 2026.

Eighty-four percent of surveyed owners said they currently use AI. Seventy-six percent reported a positive impact on productivity, and 71% reported a positive impact on revenue or sales over the past 12 months. Four in five (80%) agreed AI helps small businesses compete more effectively with larger companies, and 83% agreed AI lets them do things that previously required significantly more money or resources.

Owners who saw a productivity gain put the time back into the business: 58% used it to improve the quality of existing work, 50% into growth and business planning, and 46% to get more done with the team they already had. Everyday uses were practical - content creation or editing (51%), local advertising and marketing (43%), translation (38%), and customer support and communications (37%).

The same study found a guidance gap: 86% of owners said small businesses need more help to get the full benefits of AI, with cost of training cited by 51%. Adoption without playbooks still leaves value on the table.

## **UK SMEs: 87% positive impact, 55% revenue up**

The Social Market Foundation's "Byte-sized growth" report, published October 19, 2026, surveyed 1,015 UK SME leaders. Seventy-nine percent said their business uses AI in some capacity - 60% of micro firms, 86% of small firms, and 92% of medium-sized companies. Among AI-using firms, 87% of senior leaders reported a positive impact, with time savings (88%) and quality improvements (79%) the most widely cited benefits, and 55% reporting a revenue increase. Only 1% cited a negative impact in the report's key stats framing.

SMF's modeling estimated that greater AI uptake could add GBP 38 to GBP 47 billion in SME revenue across Great Britain, with London the largest absolute gain at about GBP 10 billion, while relative gains versus existing SME turnover looked more evenly spread. Employment effects looked modest: AI adoption was 2.7 times more likely to leave employment unchanged than to increase it, and 1.8 times more likely to increase employment than to decrease it - a picture closer to augmentation than mass replacement.

## **What this means for brands that want AI agents as customers**

Small firms are already using AI for customer service, marketing, bookkeeping, and sales. The next layer is making the brand itself usable by AI agents - the shopping, support, and research agents that act for people. That means clear product and policy text on your own site, machine-readable paths for returns and support, and signals that agents can trust without guessing.

Robauto's free Agent Scan checks agent readiness across Signal Basics, Technical Groundwork, Agent Integration, and Agentic Commerce, then gives a paste-ready fix for each gap. Run it on your domain at [https://robauto.ai/scan](https://robauto.ai/scan). Frequent internal AI use helps you operate. Agent-ready pages help you get found and chosen.

None of these surveys claim AI alone causes growth. PYMNTS is explicit that the link is associative. Meta's YouGov sample is a balanced cross-section by business size, not a nationally representative census. SMF's GBP 38-47 billion figure is a modeled opportunity if deeper adoption happens. What they share is a hopeful, measurable story: people and AI working together inside small businesses, with hard percentages attached - and a reminder that brands which stay invisible to agents will miss the same wave their peers are already riding.
