Adobe's Oct 29 data shows AI-referred shoppers convert 90% better and bring 83% more revenue per visit, with AI holiday traffic forecast up 130%. The stores winning them write clear guides, FAQs and product details.

This holiday season, a growing number of shoppers will ask an AI assistant what to buy before they ever open a store's website. The good news for retailers is that those shoppers are turning out to be some of the happiest, most decided customers a store can get. Adobe's newest data, published October 29, 2026, shows AI-referred visitors to U.S. retail sites are now worth 83% more per visit than everyone else, and the stores that benefit most share one simple habit: their pages explain things clearly.

## **The numbers flipped in about a year**

Adobe Digital Insights tracks direct online transactions across more than 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail sites, 100 million SKUs and 18 product categories, backed by a September 2026 survey of more than 5,000 U.S. consumers ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)). In September 2026, traffic to retail sites from AI tools grew 71% year over year, and those visitors converted 90% better than non-AI visitors, the highest gap Adobe has recorded. As recently as August 2025, AI traffic converted 9% worse ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)).

Once they land, AI-referred shoppers spend 73% more time on site, view 25% more pages per visit, and add products to their carts at a 53% higher rate. Put together, AI traffic generated 83% higher revenue per visit in September. Adobe's summary of the shift is striking: in 12 months, an AI visit went from being worth less than half of a typical visit to nearly twice as much, and Adobe expects that revenue advantage to double this holiday season ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)).

## **A holiday season with AI in the shopping cart**

Adobe forecasts U.S. online holiday sales of $275.1 billion from November 1 through December 31, up 6.7% from last year, with Cyber Week expected to bring in $47.5 billion ([Adobe Experience League](https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/perspectives/planning-and-pivoting-a-strategic-approach-to-peak-season-2026)). Across the season, AI-driven traffic to retail sites is forecast to grow 130% year over year ([Adobe holiday forecast](https://business.adobe.com/resources/holiday-shopping-report.html)).

In its October 29 update, Adobe projects AI traffic to rise 159% on Thanksgiving, 95% on Black Friday and 88% on Cyber Monday ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)). For comparison, Adobe's forecast has paid search traffic growing just 4% and social media traffic 17% ([Investing.com](https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/adobe-sees-aidriven-retail-traffic-surging-as-paid-search-growth-slows-93CH-4920381)). AI is still a smaller channel than search, but it is by far the fastest-growing one.

## **Shoppers say AI makes them more confident**

The most human part of this story is how shoppers feel. In Adobe's consumer survey, more than three-quarters of people who used AI assistants for shopping said they felt more confident in their purchases ([CX Dive](https://www.customerexperiencedive.com/news/consumer-ai-use-boon-holidays-ai-traffic-doubles/831432/)). And 69% said they are less likely to return an item they bought with the help of an AI assistant ([Adobe holiday forecast](https://business.adobe.com/resources/holiday-shopping-report.html)).

That is a win on both sides of the counter. Shoppers spend less time second-guessing gifts, and stores deal with fewer returns in the expensive weeks after the holidays. The assistant does the comparison work up front, so the person who clicks through already knows what they want.

## **The stores that win are the ones that explain**

Here is the practical part. Adobe measures how much of a page an AI system can actually understand and cite, which it calls a Citation Readability Score. In September, the average U.S. retail homepage scored 63%, meaning more than a third of homepage content was not visible to the AI tools sending these valuable shoppers ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)).

The leaders are worth copying. Electronics retailers scored highest at 79% overall, with category pages at 79% and customer service pages at 78%, because they are full of setup guides, troubleshooting articles and detailed specs. Grocery followed at 55%, while general merchandise homepages scored just 40%, where navigation-heavy, promotional layouts give AI less to work with ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)).

Adobe's conclusion is encouraging for any brand, big or small: the pages that answer shoppers' questions, from product details and buying guides to FAQs and return policies, are the ones AI can find, understand and recommend ([Adobe](https://business.adobe.com/blog/ai-traffic-higher-revenue-per-visit-retail-holiday)). You do not need a giant ad budget to write a clear sizing guide or a plain-language return policy.

### **Five things to do before Black Friday**

**1. Write the answers down.** Put sizing, compatibility, shipping cutoffs and gift-return windows in plain text on the page, not only inside images or pop-ups.

**2. Make product data complete.** Adobe's own peak-season guide recommends complete product titles, accurate pricing, detailed descriptions and structured attributes such as JSON-LD across every SKU ([Adobe Experience League](https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/perspectives/planning-and-pivoting-a-strategic-approach-to-peak-season-2026)).

**3. Give your homepage words, not just banners.** A short paragraph on who you serve and what you sell helps AI place you correctly.

**4. Treat help pages as sales pages.** Electronics proves that support content is some of the most readable content on a site.

**5. Keep prices and stock current.** AI assistants repeat what they read, so stale holiday prices travel fast.

## **The Robauto takeaway**

Being findable and usable by AI agents is turning into one of the best opportunities of the season. The shoppers arriving from AI are more confident, more engaged and worth more per visit, and the path to them is mostly good, clear writing plus clean product data. That is work any team can start this week.
